Where Shall We Go? Exploring the Great River Road—and Can Air Fresheners Clean Your Car?

When you're hitting the open road, nothing beats that fresh, clean feeling inside your car. But can air fresheners actually help clean your car interior? While traditional air fresheners are designed to add pleasant scents, innovative options like Drive Time® Aromables® Cottony Fresh do more than just smell good—they help neutralize odors at the source, giving your car a fresher, cleaner feel.

Odor Neutralization vs. Cleaning

While air fresheners don’t replace deep cleaning, some modern formulas go beyond masking odors. Drive Time Aromables Cottony Fresh, for instance, includes TMM® odor neutralizer by Belle Aire® Creations, a technology designed to eliminate bad smells rather than just covering them up. This means that while you still need to vacuum and wipe down surfaces, your car’s interior will stay fresher longer with the right air freshener.

For a full cleaning routine:

  • Vacuum regularly to remove dirt and debris.

  • Use a microfiber cloth and an all-purpose cleaner to wipe down surfaces.

  • Apply an odor-neutralizing air freshener like the Drive Time Aromables Cottony Fresh to keep unwanted smells at bay.

  • Refresh fabric seats and carpets with baking soda or fabric sprays before adding a long-lasting air freshener.

A Scenic Drive on the Great River Road

With a fresh-smelling car, we set out on a breathtaking road trip along the Great River Road, traveling from Ste. Genevieve, MO, to Marquette, IA. This legendary route spans 10 states, winding along the Mississippi River, marked by the iconic green Pilot’s Wheel signs. If you’re planning your own adventure, free state maps are available at experiencemississippiriver.com.

Starting in Ste. Genevieve, MO

Our journey began in Ste. Genevieve, the oldest settlement in Missouri, known for its unique French Colonial architecture. The Old Brick House, built in 1780, now serves up must-try fried chicken, fried fish, and the local favorite—liver dumplings. If you’re a history enthusiast, this town is worth an entire weekend visit.

On the Road with Drive Time Aromables Cottony Fresh

Before hitting the road, we clipped in our Drive Time Aromables Cottony Fresh vent clip—an invigorating fragrance blend of red plum, paperwhites, and cashmere woods. The scent set the perfect mood for our scenic drive, adding a touch of warmth and freshness to the journey.

Exploring Hannibal, MO

As we traveled north, we made a pit stop in Hannibal, MO—home of Mark Twain. With attractions like Mark Twain’s boyhood home, Becky Thatcher’s house, and the fascinating Mark Twain Cave, this town is another destination worthy of a weekend getaway.

Adventures on the Mississippi River

We reached Marquette, IA, where we met up with family friends who invited us onto their pontoon boat for a day on the Mississippi. The adventure started with an unexpected thrill—a passing barge created waves so massive that water flooded the front of the boat! We scrambled to the back, leveling out just in time.

But the excitement didn’t end there. As we cruised south, we had the chance to pass through Lock and Dam #10 in Guttenberg, IA—a must-see experience for any river traveler. We took a break to enjoy a picnic, tying off under some shady trees, only to find ourselves stranded when the boat wouldn't restart. Turns out, we had run out of gas in the middle of the river! A friendly fisherman gave us a tow to a marina, where we refueled and set off once again.

Later, another mishap struck—this time, the wrong type of fuel had been used! Our boat operator had to hike back to the marina to grab the right oil mix. Thankfully, we were soon cruising again, laughing at our series of unfortunate (but unforgettable) events.

The Power of a Fresh Smelling Car

After a long, adventure-filled day, getting back into our car was a refreshing relief. Thanks to Drive Time Aromables Cottony Fresh, our car smelled just as inviting as when we started, proving that an odor-neutralizing air freshener can make any trip more enjoyable.
